Why journalism?

I'm a journalist because I love finding the turning point.

Who am I?

My name is Justice Covert. I'm a journalism student at the University of Central Florida, and I intend to graduate in December 2025. I love storytelling and am eager to explore any opportunity to grow as a writer, editor and producer. This past school year, I actively sought out any way to explore opportunities outside my comfort zone, covering new beats, producing filmed content, and leading an editing team.

In the fall, I served as the UCF Student Government beat reporter for UCF's student-run digital news outlet The Charge, the editor-in-chief for UCF's Centric Magazine, and producer for "Knight Time," a weekly show covering college sports for UCF's student-run sports programming network Hitting The Field. And in the spring, I dabbled in more audio and visual storytelling for my multimedia journalism class, where I received a perfect score for both of my projects.

Volunteering to serve as editor-in-chief for Centric and producer for "Knight Time" was to, in large part, broaden my horizons as a journalist. Producing a weekly show and serving as editor-in-chief has taught me how to manage time, assign tasks, enforce deadlines and challenge myself to exceed expectations.

I pride myself on being dependable, a fast learner, and eager to succeed in any environment in which I'm placed.
